Views from the Shore

August 11-14, 2015

We took a few days this past week and went to the ocean in Westerly Rhode Island and then back along the Connecticut shore. It was a nice trip and we had great weather.

We stayed in a simple "inn" walking distance to Misquamicut. It's getting toward the end of summer and the beach was packed but if you're willing to walk towards Watch Hill the crowds thinned out.

There are some nicer houses down at this end.

Watch Hill harbor

This is the harbor at Watch Hill. The town was pretty packed but it still seemed quiet.

We stopped for lunch in Stonington and walked aroud a little.

We visited the Harkness Memorial State Park in Waterford. This "mansion" was left to the state back in the 50's. Mr. Harkness's father was an investor with John D. Rockerfeller and did pretty well (understatement)

This property was pretty large and there were many places to sit and look out at the water.

There was a formal garden in the front of the building

Built in the French style (I think?)

We stayed a couple of nights in the "Bee and Thisle Inn" in Old Lyme. The Inn was built around 1775

The Inn is on the Lieutenant River and we sat down there in the evening and the mornings
