70th Birthday
For my birthday we went to New York City for a couple of nights. We did the completely touristic things: went to MoMa, the Theater, and the Ballet.
On the morning of my birthday we had bread pudding in lieu of a cake. Corby put some candles on it but didn't have a zero candle so she used a hard boiled egg for the zero.
It's the middle of winter but flowers where in bloom. What's up with that? I saw fake flowers all over town.
We ate lunch at Mimi's over on 2nd Avenue. Not crowded, not expensive, not bad. We were looking for a place that was doing the restaurant week thing but just got tired of looking and walking.
Corby wasn't that impressed.
The play was a musical and the actors were Broadway caliber but I forgot what it means to tell a story only using song. They sing, they dance and the stage moves round and round. These people were very good but it's hard for me to imagine putting on this show every night for four years.
We stayed at the Carnegie Hotel across the street from Carnegie Hall. The room was small but the location was good. They gave us a bottle of Prosecco for my birthday.
We rode the bus down to Fotografiska on South Park Avenue (FlatIron district) and saw the Hip Hop show. The whole place is kind of cool and probably worth a visit if you are in town. They have a coffee shop which was pretty busy with locals.
We had lunch just down the street at Oceans. The room was nice and the food was pretty good. I think I'd go back there again.
These are views from Central Park. It was cold but we walked through the park to get to the Met.
The Met is just an amazing place! It would take a lifetime to see and understand just a fraction of what is there.
I didn't get any good photos from this exhibit but when you can't see everything you have to pick and choose. This was very manageable and kind of in the Black History Month theme.
The Kimono Style Exhibit was really well done. This style started 500 years ago and it influenced designers to the modern day. The styles from the 30's were my favorites. Check out the link above for much better pictures than what I have.
We got off the bus at 49th Street and had lunch Casa Limone in the next block. It was OK and it was on our way to Grand Central.
I can't believe they are still building new buildings but they are.
We had a good trip and got back home before dark and the frigid weather.
